As another pioneering event in Chandigarh a symposium on cyber-security awareness was held on June 23, 2007, organized by Cyber Security Research Centre, PEC at Hotel Mountview under the aegis of Department of Information technology, Chandigarh Administration and NASSCOM. The Symposium on Cyber Security awareness established a dialogue between crime-fighting agencies, the security industry, and experts to create a platform from which information security can be examined from several global perspectives. The symposia also helped to foster cooperation and exchange of ideas with other reputed attendees from industry, government and academia. H.E. Gen.(Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues PVSM VSM, Governor Punjab & Administrator Chandigarh inaugurating the event, urged the innovation and creation of Public-Private partnerships to make this endeavour a success. He said that Information Technology is going to impact every field & that India has the right ecosystem to become a leader in this field.

  

Dr. Prem Chand, Vice President & CIO, and Tech Mahindra: “Is India Prepared Enough For Cyber Security?"

Dr. Premchand has over 33 years of experience in the IT industry. A former Additional Director General in the Ministry of Defense, responsible for Information  Infrastructure, IT Security, Information Warfare Program and development of Real Time Decision Support and  Combat Systems for the Navy. His current roles have been as CIO, Business Head, Security Consulting; Business Head, Security Technology Group; and Business Head, iPolicy Networks Ltd.

 

Session I : "Cyber Security Awareness"

Mr. Ponnurangam Kumaraguru, P.hD student, CMU, USA: International perspective of Cyber Security

Ponnurangam K (PK) is a PhD. candidate in the Computation Organization and Society (COS) programme with the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). PK's research interests are privacy, security, trust, human computer interaction and learning science. At CMU, PK is currently working on a National Science Foundation funded project Supporting Trust Decisions. In this project, he is looking at modeling trust behavior of Internet users and developing methodologies for education user about security attacks. PK is currently an intern with NASSCOM working on Data Security Council of India (DSCI) with Mr. Shyamal Ghosh and Mr.Nandkumar Saravade.

Sh. Anil Sagar, Operations Manger, CERT-IN : Privacy and security countermeasures in e-governance projects in India

Mr. Anil is working in CERT-IN from last 13 years, he did his BE in Computer Science & Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering. He did his MS in Software Systems from BITS, Pilani. He has acquired his skills on Incident Handling and Computer Forensics via series of training from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), USA . He is also a certified Ethical Hacker and is looking after the Overall CERT-IN operations

Mr. Akhilesh Tuteja, Executive Director – Advisory Services, KPMG : Security, privacy, and data protection implementations among organizations in India

He has extensive experience in financial services and IT industry and has been associated with a number of national and international industry forums. He is an engineering graduate and MBA.  He also has CISA and CISSP certifications; and he is a trained BS7799 Lead Auditor. He has advised over 100 clients on matters relating to information risk assessment, design of information security architectures, development of business continuity plans and conducted many forensic investigations.  He has significant expertise in conducting audits of a variety of ERP systems including SAP, Oracle and Baan.He also undertakes the responsibility of the KPMG India firm’s chief information security officer.

Session II : " Challenges of Cyber Security and its Countermeasures "

Dr A.M. Pedgaonkar, Chief General Manager, IT, RBI, Mumbai :Steps taken by financial institutions to protect consumer information

Dr. A. M. Pedgaonkar, Chief General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, Department of Information Technology, has M. Sc. and Ph. D. (Statistics), CISA, BS7799 Advance ISMS (DNV). Last 28 years he is working with the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities. He is associated with the various payment and settlement systems projects such as Cheque Truncation System, Cheque Processing Systems, Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS), Centralized Funds Management System (CFMS), Negotiated Dealing System, Securities Settlement Systems, National Financial Switch, Structured Financial Messaging System (SFMS), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), etc.

Prof. Dheeraj Sanghi, Professor, CSE, IIT Kanpur : Current status and challenges of cyber security education and research in India

He did his Ph.D and MS from University of Maryland , and B. Tech from, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur . He is presently heading the Prabhu Goel Research Centre for Computer and Internet Security at IIT Kanpur and has visited more than 50 technical institutes all over India   spreading technological awareness

Nandkumar Saravade is the Director of cyber security and compliance at NASSCOM.  Nandkumar is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He specializes in cybercrime issues.  He is handling NASSCOM's outreach program on cyber security, focusing on law enforcement capacity building on cybercrime response and enhancing information security awareness for different IT user groups. He holds a post-graduate degree in Environmental Engineering from the IIT, Mumbai.
