As another pioneering event in Chandigarh a symposium on cyber-security awareness was held on June 23, 2007, organized by Cyber Security Research Centre, PEC at Hotel Mountview under the aegis of Department of Information technology, Chandigarh Administration and NASSCOM. The Symposium on Cyber Security awareness established a dialogue between crime-fighting agencies, the security industry, and experts to create a platform from which information security can be examined from several global perspectives. The symposia also helped to foster cooperation and exchange of ideas with other reputed attendees from industry, government and academia.
H.E. Gen.(Retd.) S.F. Rodrigues PVSM VSM, Governor Punjab & Administrator Chandigarh inaugurating the event, urged the innovation and creation of Public-Private partnerships to make this endeavour a success. He said that Information Technology is going to impact every field & that India has the right ecosystem to become a leader in this field.

Ponnurangam
K (PK) is a PhD. candidate in the Computation Organization and Society (COS) programme
with the
School
of
Computer Science
at
Carnegie Mellon University
(CMU). PK's research interests are privacy, security, trust, human computer interaction
and learning science. At CMU, PK is currently working on a National Science Foundation
funded project Supporting Trust Decisions. In this project, he is looking at modeling
trust behavior of Internet users and developing methodologies for education user
about security attacks. PK is currently an intern with NASSCOM working on Data Security
Council of
India
(DSCI) with Mr. Shyamal Ghosh and Mr.Nandkumar Saravade.

He
has extensive experience in financial services and IT industry and has been associated
with a number of national and international industry forums. He is an engineering
graduate and MBA. He also has CISA
and CISSP certifications; and he is a trained BS7799 Lead Auditor. He has advised
over 100 clients on matters relating to information risk assessment, design of information
security architectures, development of business continuity plans and conducted many
forensic investigations. He has significant
expertise in conducting audits of a variety of ERP systems including SAP, Oracle
and Baan.He also undertakes the responsibility of the KPMG

firm’s chief information security officer.

in various capacities. He is associated with the various payment and settlement

Nandkumar
Saravade is the Director of cyber security and compliance at NASSCOM.
Nandkumar is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He specializes in cybercrime
issues. He is handling NASSCOM's outreach
program on cyber security, focusing on law enforcement capacity building on cybercrime
response and enhancing information security awareness for different IT user groups.
He holds a post-graduate degree in Environmental Engineering from the IIT, Mumbai.
